The MIT Program

The Mentor in Training (MIT) is a program within the Power of One available for students 18-22 and student ambassadors returning to the Power of One Program.

The goal of this program is to provide peer support and leadership to the younger students participating in the Power of One. As an older or returning student to the Power of One you have so much to offer! The other students will look up to you and want to be just like you!

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about leadership and mentoring; skills that will benefit you throughout your life. This program is completely voluntary and please do not feel obligated to participate. Regardless, you will be an integral part of the Power of One and we are grateful that you have chosen to join us!

Role of an MIT

  • To provide emotional support to your fellow Student Ambassadors
  • To demonstrate by your actions the values that the Power of One holds sacred
  • To provide leadership by example to all participants
  • To bring your experience and maturity to the program and emulate these traits for the younger students that they may learn from you

Sylvia“It takes an adult 7 days to 7 weeks to make an impact on a student’s life, but it takes another student their age or slightly older 7 seconds to 7 minutes to make a difference.”

Importance of an MIT

You have the opportunity to affect a junior student in a positive way. In leading by example you are teaching them how to “show up” in this world and giving them the benefit of your life experiences. You are teaching communication skills, problem solving, conflict resolution and leadership that will surely benefit these students throughout their life. You could be the inspiration for something truly great!

What you take away from the MIT Program

  • An opportunity to hone your mentoring and leadership skills
  • The chance to provide service to your fellow Student Ambassadors by offering support and mentorship; the very goal of the Power of One Program
  • A Letter of Accomplishment outlining your responsibilities as an MIT that can be used for college, scholarship and employment applications.

“If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.” – From “The World According to Mr. Rodgers”
